Northwood LionsNorthwood Live at Home Scheme
The Northwood Live at Home Scheme has been supporting elderly members of our community since 1997. The scheme continues to offer support to enable older people to live more rewarding lives. The aim of the scheme is to recruit volunteers to enable us to offer services such as an information service and Volunteer befrienders, who visit regularly offering friendly company. We organise a tea and chat once a month, often with entertainment or the opportunity to learn more about healthy lifestyles from a guest speaker. We also arrange outings and trips further afield with one-to-one assistance and door-to-door transport to garden centres, restaurants and places of interest. One request that we hear more and more is for assistance to our members to go shopping. Many of our members feel unable to get to medical appointments or go to the shops by themselves. Choosing your own groceries is a real treat for someone living at home alone, unable to go out alone because of the lack of confidence or ability due to frailty. Our Volunteers offer our members this support. If you have a car, a ‘free’ hour once a fortnight or just occasionally and would like to help someone, please contact us.
