This sub-committee seeks to put pressure on LBH to uphold respectable standards of maintenance and repair of roads and pavements within Northwood along with street trees and shrubs. We also deal with refuse and recycling collections, dumping and fly-tipping, graffiti, traffic, parking and speed limits.

Ongoing environment issues:

The sub-committee has campaigned towards improving street trees, including regular maintenance of overhanging branches and trimming back of suckers at the base of trees. A joint project between NRA and LBH has seen the regeneration of the Eastbury Road area through monies from the Chrysalis fund.

We are in regular contact with LBH requesting both removal of rubbish dumped in the Green Lane area and improved communication with residents as to when rubbish/recycling collections are suspended over the Christmas/Winter period.

We endeavour to reflect the overall wishes of residents and businesses in respect of parking. We are currently lobbying LBH for some speed activated signs in areas where there are problems with speeding.

The NRA will continue to take photographs of the state of Northwood’s streets and campaign for better general maintenance in an attempt to divert more funds back to the northern part of the borough where a good proportion of tax is raised.

If any resident wishes to report any problems, e.g. bad pavements, overgrown street trees, potholes, dumped cars etc. use the small yellow cards in Northwood library or report via email to: contactcentre1@hillingdon.gov.uk.

You can also report concerns about road safety at a particular site to the council. Download a form to print and fill in here - post it to the address on the bottom of the form.

Northwood Residents’ Association feels that whilst Northwood is a much sought-after area for schooling, both state and private, it is otherwise at risk of losing its attractiveness, and that in a number of identifiable areas standards of council maintenance have fallen within the town environs generally and the shopping precincts specifically.  We believe that Northwood needs a town plan that describes a range of basic standards that will maintain good conditions in the town, and that also provides for the town’s development in order to maintain its attractiveness to residents and businesses as compared with neighbouring towns. The purpose of the Improving Northwood sub-committee is to develop the plan and to work with Hillingdon Council and others to see it implemented. The draft plan’s main themes were outlined at the Association’s AGM in 2006, and the plan is now viewable on this website by clicking the following link

   Discussion Document - Draft

If you wish to comment on the plan please do so by either sending an email to the sub-committee or writing to the sub-committee’s chair, Dr Keith Baker, 18a Murray Road, Northwood, HA6 2YJ.

Hillingdon Council has agreed to provide officer time to develop the proposals within the Council to produce an internal plan of action for a number of departments within the Council. The Council has agreed to involve NRA members in the development of the Council plan. We will be working to ensure that the Council develops and adopts a comprehensive plan and includes it in its annual cycles of works.

We were delighted to hear our local councillors confirm at the 2007 NRA AGM that they have obtained 'seed corn' funds to initiate various of the works that are agreed within the Council's plan for Northwood.

The Membership sub-committee is a partnership of the Chief Road Steward and the Treasurer. The Chief Road Steward co-ordinates the work of the Area Road Stewards who in turn look after the Road Stewards in their areas.

The Treasurer receives subscriptions, keeps the accounts and maintains the membership list.

Pre-printed envelopes for collecting subscriptions are now available for all road stewards to use if they wish. Many road stewards still prefer to collect subscriptions in person as this keeps them in touch with residents’ concerns, but for those with limited time the envelopes have proved to be a boon.

If you are not already a member, why not visit our Application Form page?

Remember, the greater our membership, the stronger our voice in local affairs.

We have now opened our membership to allow “Business” members which encourages the residents and traders to work together to maintain, and where necessary, improve Northwood as a pleasant place to live.

We are keen to increase the business membership so if you know someone in business in Northwood, please do point them in our direction.

The police sub-committee meets representatives of the local police every three months at the Northwood Safer Neighbourhoods Panel. This committee is itself a wider grouping with members drawn from organisations in Northwood. The committee is a two way channel between the police and the community where both parties can raise matters of local concern.

The committee is always on the lookout for new members as we genuinely want to be responsive to public interest. Our meetings are open to the public and are held at Holy Trinity Church meeting room.
