Did you see the Queen’s Green Canopy ‘Tree of Trees’ outside Buckingham Palace during HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations? It was designed by Thomas Heatherwick and stood 70ft high. The steel branches held 350 trees in specially designed aluminium pots embossed with the Queen’s cypher.
The trees are being gifted evenly across the UK in proportion to the population, with each county receiving at least one tree. The Lord Lieutenants of each county, who are the sovereign’s representatives, have been championing the QGC locally and have selected the recipients of the special trees and pot.
We are proud to announce that Northwood and Northwood Hills Residents’ Associations have been chosen to receive one of these trees in recognition of their work in the community, in particular by organising Jubilee in the Park.
On Monday 3rd October 2022, Andrew Riley and Alan Shipman from NHRA and Tony Ellis from NRA represented us at a tree gifting ceremony at The Royal Hospital Chelsea. They received a Field Maple sapling which will be planted in the Northwood Recreation Ground in due course.
The full story of the ceremony will be published in the NRA Autumn newsletter.
