The Executive Committee is made up of a group of volunteers who give freely of their time and skills. Their areas of expertise are varied, including applied physics, art, music, education, law, dentistry, medicine and office management. This wide-ranging expertise contributes significantly to the effectiveness of the committee.
The full committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 8pm in The Family Room, Northwood Methodist Church, Oaklands Gate with sub-committees meeting as necessary. Plymouth, Devon, was my birthplace. I left the city in 1959 to attend King’s College London University where I obtained a BA (Hons) in French with subsidiary Italian. I became a qualified graduate secretary, but later switched to education and taught in Harrow secondary schools for 27 years. With my family, I moved to Northwood in 1977.
I was born in Leicester in 1942, am married with three children and five grandchildren and have lived in Northwood since 1990. During my business career as a Chartered Accountant I worked in the UK, four African countries and Kazakhstan. Since retirement I have taken an active interest in the local community. I was a governor at The Hillingdon Hospitals Foundation Trust for 12 years and secretary for Northwood Live a Home for 13 years. I have been Chairman of the NRA since 2008 and am a member of Hillingdon Healthwatch Board. I was also the Chairman of Save our Northwood Ltd, the organisation that successfully stopped London Transport building a supermarket on the Northwood station car park.
Having lived in Northwood all my life, and now with my own family, I am keen that the area’s unique character is not eroded away.
