This year’s Remembrance Service was held at the War Memorial on Sunday 10th November. On an overcast but mild day, a good crowd of residents came together to remember and pay tribute to those who have died for their country in conflicts around the world, especially in the two World Wars. Special references were made to the many conflicts that continue around the world today.
The service was led by Rev Tim Meathrel, Vicar of Emmanuel Church, who was supported by other local religious leaders. Wreaths were laid by representatives of numerous local organisations; President, Valerie Mellor, laid one on behalf of Northwood Residents’ Association.
The address was given by Revd Professor Mark Cartledge, Principal, London School of Theology.
Maxwell Road was closed to traffic and those laying wreaths gathered in the War Memorial area, while members of the public stood opposite on the Green Lane pavement and in Maxwell Road.
Thanks to all those who helped to organise this event.
