Recently the Borough has received enquiries about the provision of a Re-Use bank where residents can take unwanted household items that are too good to throw away. In response the Waste Division has recently installed a special Re-Use bank – sometimes referred to as a ‘scrap store’ – at the New Years Green Lane Civic Amenity site in Harefield. Items suitable for re-use include:
- Paints – full or half tins
- Re-usable DIY materials – windows, doors, sinks, wallpapers, paint brushes, fixtures, fittings, plumbing materials
- Hand tools
- Chinaware and other crockery – cups, saucers, plates, mugs, serving dishes
- Kitchen items – cutlery, pots, pans, utensils
- Furniture – chairs, sofas, beds, stools, tables
- Soft furnishing – rugs, curtains, cushions, bedding
- Garden items – gardening equipment, furniture, ornaments, tools
- Children’s toys and games
- Bicycles – children and adult sizes
- Sports equipment – rackets, footballs, bats
- Musical instruments
- Mobile phones
- Books, Music CDs, Videos, DVDs
- Collectables, Memorabilia
Residents are invited to sort out their unwanted goods and take them up to the Re-Use bank in Harefield (map with directions). The site is open 7 days a week from 8:00am – 4:00pm. Opening hours are extended to 6:00pm during British Summer Time.
Whilst you are there why not take the opportunity to browse through the items already delivered for re-use and help yourself to anything you like. However, please note that as this is a new initiative the bank may be rather empty to start with. Residents wishing to use the bank should park their cars in the main recycling area. Site staff will be on hand to answer any queries.
