Quad Bike Nuisance

Posted on

Some residents have recently been complaining about quad bikes in and around the Copsewood area.  Our Safer Neighbourhood Team is aware of these complaints and are investigating. It appears that this is a common nuisance in Hillingdon and elsewhere. Please continue to report these as outlined below:

  •   If quad bikes are causing a nuisance in your area, responsibility for tackling the issue is split between the police and Hillingdon Council, depending on where the vehicles are being ridden.
  • It is completely illegal to ride quad bikes in public parks, open spaces, or on pavements. They can only be legally ridden on private land with the explicit consent of the landowner.
  • Under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act, police officers have the authority to seize and confiscate quad bikes being used illegally or anti-socially.

What can you do to help?

1.      If the quad bikes are being driven recklessly, speeding, or driving on public roads and pavements, it is a criminal and traffic offence.

Who Deals with It: The Metropolitan Police.
Action Required: Do not approach the riders. Report the anti-social behaviour to the police by calling 101 or submitting a report via the Metropolitan Police Vehicle Nuisance Portal.  If there is an immediate danger to life, call 999.

2.      If the nuisance stems from someone constantly revving or riding a quad bike on a specific piece of private land or a neighbour’s driveway, it can be treated as a statutory noise nuisance.

Who Deals With It: Hillingdon Council Anti-Social Behaviour Team (ASBET).
Action Required: Submit a complaint via the Hillingdon Council Noise Nuisance Page.
Prerequisite: You will be required to keep a 2-week diary log detailing the dates, times, and duration of the noise before the council will officially investigate the statutory nuisance.
