Northwood Hills Friendship Group: We Have Fun

Posted on

The Monday Friendship Group run by the Northwood Live At Home Scheme had its formal Launch party on February 27th at the Northwood Hills URC Church in Joel Street. The Group provides a day of activities for older people in the area on Mondays. The Members of the Group had their normal sessions of gentle exercise, refreshments, craft activity and quizzes with plenty of talking about times past and present and lots of laughter. Yvonne Long, the Scheme Assistant Manager, has master minded the Group and leads the activities, ensuring that every Member participates fully.

For the Launch we were joined by The Worshipful the Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Mary O’Connor MBE, Cllr John Morgan and many other supporters and Volunteers of the Scheme.  Speeches from Member Joyce Guerney, the Scheme Manager, Linda Chapman, and the Mayor who congratulated all concerned, declared the Group formally launched and cut a celebration cake.

One Member’s comment about the Group was “It’s a lovely feeling, you forget your age and we all just have fun”.

The Group has proved its effectiveness in reducing social isolation and helping people have fun. It is now time for the Group to expand, so if you would like to take part in the Group as a Member or a Volunteer contact the Scheme on 01923 842494. Or if you know of anyone else in the Northwood Hills or Northwood area who could benefit from it, do contact the Scheme.
