Northwood Town Centre Clock – a timeline

Posted on

The NRA committee hopes that Northwood residents are pleased with their new clock on the corner of Green Lane and Maxwell Road. The idea of having a clock was first mooted at our AGM in 2015 when we discussed ways in which we could celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Association’s foundation on 9th February 1966. By the 2016 AGM, the committee had decided on a commemorative clock, we just needed to find a suitable site. Members voted and agreed on the final site, they also approved spending up to £4,500 from funds.

We had many meetings and much correspondence with the Hillingdon Council attempting to get permission to install the clock but we were temporarily beaten by council bureaucracy. After a two year hiatus Tony Ellis asked Cllr Richard Lewis to try a direct approach to the Leader of the Council, Cllr Ray Puddifoot. This he did and in September 2019 the logjam was broken and the clock was ordered and installed in December. Richard arranged for the installation to be paid for out of Ward funds. Many thanks to Richard, Cllr Puddifoot and the council workers who completed the installation. The formal inauguration was carried out by Richard at our Carols@Costa Pop-Up event on 19th December 2019 and the Rev Ann Lynes said a short blessing.
