Services at Northwood Hills Library

Posted on

Though we are missing Oaklands Gate Library, it’s worth noting that Northwood Hills Library is a short bus ride away and offers lots of useful services.  The Assistant Branch Manager, Ruth Curry shares some here:

I think some residents will be interested to learn that we are in the process of setting up a Gardening conversational group for those who like to plan and consider what they will be doing in the garden next year or they may simply want to learn and talk about plants and gardens.  The group will be self-running and form its own agenda as it develops.  It will meet here at the library, possibly once a fortnight.

We are also looking for volunteers, possibly retirees, with a good knowledge of IT who can help our library users to develop their digital skills particularly around issues such as managing medical appointments on-line, or shopping and banking on-line.  Our public PCs have access to special training modules in these and many more subjects and are free to use.

We also run a Dementia Friends Group every Wednesday afternoon from 2.30 – 3.30 p.m.  Those with Dementia and their supporters are welcome to come for a chat, hot drink and biscuits and to play quizzes and games that help stimulate conversation and their memories.  The sessions can be great fun and they sometimes use the interactive Tovertafel Table which is very relaxing and enjoyed by all age groups.

We continue to run storytime sessions twice a week for pre-school age children, have plenty of space for study, run an Adult Craft Group, and Junior Chess and Lego groups on Saturdays.

The library telephone number is 01895 556460
